Good Landlord Program

On June 18, 2013, the South Ogden City Council passed Ordinance 13-15, Adopting a Good Landlord Program. A copy of this ordinance can be accessed on the South Ogden City web site by clicking here.

Under the  ordinance:

  • All rental dwellings within city limits must obtain a rental dwelling license. Rental units for which no financial payment is received (or those otherwise exempted by act of law) are exempt from licensing.

  • The cost of obtaining a rental dwelling license will be significantly discounted for property owners who participate in the Good Landlord Program; however, while a rental license is required, participation in the Good Landlord Program is optional.

  • Participants in the Good Landlord Program agree to fulfill certain requirements regarding tenant screening, selection, and lease agreements, as well as to attend an approved landlord training class. (see below)

South Ogden City has two providers that offer Good Landlord classes. They are the Utah Apartment Association and The Good Landlord.  These are independent companies with no affiliation with South Ogden City, but provide a service to the City and its residents. Although the city has scheduled classes at South Ogden City Hall for your convenience, residents looking to fulfill their class requirements may attend at any convenient location. Both companies offer classes throughout the state, as well as at a variety of times.  The Good Landlord also offers an on-line course.  Please visit their web sites to find a time and location that will best work for you and to register and pay for the classes.  The city does not register or take payment for these classes.
